Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro Launched With An 18:9 Display

Micromax has announced its latest device to follow the 18:9 display trend, the Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro. Some of this year’s biggest flagship launches have been dominated by the hype surrounding their new bezel-less displays and, as the year has progressed, this feature has begun to trickle down to mid-range Android devices. Micromax’s original Canvas Infinity is no exception to the trend, but now, just four months after launch, the company is back with an upgraded version.

The new Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro features the same aluminum construction as the previous device, and it also borrows the display from its predecessor. Dominating the front panel once again is a large 5.7-inch, 18:9 display, that features a 1440 x 720p resolution. The side bezels remain relatively slim, while the bottom and top are slightly thicker. As per usual, the top bezel houses the typical sensor setup and an earpiece, but Micromax has decided to include a dual-selfie cameras this time around, comprised of a main 20-megapixel sensor and a secondary 8-megapixel one, that, together, offer portrait mode. Moving on to the rear of the smartphone, in the center Micromax has placed an improved 16-megapixel sensor, which is coupled with a single-LED flash. Also placed on the rear is a round-shaped fingerprint sensor. Looking at the internal side of things, the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 430 processor and is coupled with the Adreno 505 GPU and 4GB of RAM. Micromax has also included 64GB of internal storage which is further expandable via microSD cards of up to 128GB. Also included is a 3,000mAh battery to keep the display on, support for 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, and Micromax has chosen to stick with a microUSB port instead of the newer USB Type-C connector. Lastly, in terms of software, the Canvas Infinity Pro will come with Android 7.1 Nougat straight out of the box, though an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo is a possibility.

The device marks yet another offering hoping to take advantage of customers’ desires for flagship features at a more reasonable price tag. However, with the trend of 18:9 displays continuing to gain momentum, the company will face even tougher competition next year. For now, though, those interested in acquiring the Micromax Canvas Infinity Pro will be able to get their hands on the device starting December 6 in India for Rs. 13,999 ($218) via Flipkart.
